Regarding the Existence or Absence of God

OK . I guess it is time to settle this once and for all. I have PROOF that God exists. Ready Gordon?

Right after 9/11, I was in NY with my wife. When we were getting ready to go to the airport to return to Florida, my wife asked me where my flight itinerary was. I had left it in our hotel room in manhattan. At this time we were at her brothers house on Long Island.

Now it is hard to describe my wife, but suffice it to say she is rather tough (a lawyer, a corporate exec., a politician). Her brother and his wife knew I was a dead man. I mean she was really pissed. Thought I wouldn't be able to get on the plane. No ticket (...e-ticket), and no travel itinerary.

We get to LaGaurdia, and they had just resumed curbside check in. So I just showed my drivers license to the porter who takes our luggage. He gives me a boarding pass. But low and behold, my wife does not have her drivers license. No picture ID. She now gets hysterical. Can't get on the plane, can't do anything. They won't even take her luggage. So I try and reassure her that we will work something out.

Finally, maybe 20 minutes later, she realizes her license is in her luggage.

Bottom line...she gets away with spacing out her license. I get away with leaving my itinerary in the hotel room. Now if everything had gone the opposite way....if I was at the airport without a drivers license, she would have killed me. I would be dead, she would be in jail, and our children's lives would have been ruined. But it was the other way around. (her brother still breaks my chops for taking "the high road").

So there HAD to have been divine intervention. Only an act of God could have created this situation.

Proof!

rs7, that story had an incredible climax. hehe ;)

i HATE when people say "divine intervention." as i've said previously in this thread, i watch the o'reilly factor. i remember after 9/11 when the world series was going on, for a while it looked like ny was going to win. i remember bill o'reilly said something like, it looks like divine intervention! (that ny was gonna win the world series after 9/11) well, turns out THEY DIDN'T WIN AND YOU NEVER HEARD O'REILLY MENTION IT. what happened to the divine intervention?!!?!

what a bunch of bs!!!!!!! divine intervention = coincidence

p.s. rs7, this rant is not directed at u! lol it's just that when i read divine intervention my fuse was ignited.

In plain language---if you had been involved in charging intrest at all you would be punished as a heretic!! (excomunicated, denyed the last rites and therefor been condemed to HELL for eternity!!)

THIS IS WHAT WE DO AS ACTIVE TRADERS! how can it be ok to do it today???

WE ARE THE MONEY CHANGERS-- we basicly do the same thing as the money changers that jesus drove out of the temple with a whip!

how you can trade on monday and go to church on sunday is beyond me! I guess you can justify anything if it feels good
awesome, awesome, post breakin!!!! this is why the christians are actually debating this in the "are traders ethical" thread! lol so sad...so sad.

That shows you haven't really researched the bible. The earth was made in 6 days, God rested on the 7th--sabbath.

has anyone here noticed that the christians like to PICK AND CHOOSE what they like from the bible? some things they take literally, some things they don't. the reason for this is, the bible is so utterly RIDICULOUS taken for what it is. but they don't want to go to hell...so they still have to live by it..but it's too hard to live by it! so they have to pick it apart and twist it all around..........give it up!!!! us free thinkers see right through all this bs!

and just so you know, another thing you're not getting away with are the NEW VERSIONS of the bible. see, even you know the bible doesn't make sense, so they change it a little bit and make a new version so that it doesn't interfere with science as much..and so that they can talk about it and sound a BIT less foolish.

Gekko, you know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about. You're trying to argue a topic with bits and pieces of knowledge.
don't be a sore loser

Thunderbolt--

Sorry buddy go back and read your bible again. If you want to get technical with me we can do it

The EARTH was fully made by the end of the 3rd day if you read genesis.

But, that of course was not my point, go back and read my post, dont nitpick and lets discuss the bigger more important points I was making and lets not argue about exact wording.

Gordon...you really can't get too serious about this subject. Those who believe in their faith won't be dissuaded. Nor will those who do not believe.

To me, it seems just impossible to follow any name brand religion to the letter. As you have pointed out, along with others, there are too many contradictions in the Bible, the Koran, the Torah, what ever source you read or study.

If one were to take the teachings of the Bible totally by the letter, you would be committing a sin if you exceeded the speed limit. Or ran a stop sign. Breaking the laws of man is breaking the law of God. Also, the bible says that essentially God determines who gets to govern. So how can our government and Iraq's government (for example) both be God's will?

Bottom line...there is no resolution to this issue. And that is why our government, in my opinion has a great thing going for it. The Bill of Rights. So we can all have our opinions and beliefs and state them and practice them, and not impose them on each other with force.
