I'm not quite sure but I think most of these virus have their roots in advertising and marketing.

I've got the same thing right now. It's only affecting the Google Search plugin right now in Firefox so I got rid of that, but I know there is something on my PC and it's annoying the shit out of me. I'm currently talking to these guys: http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-virus-removal/announcements.html and they're slowly giving me a walkthrough fix (hopefully). I'll let you know how it goes, but it may take a few days.

i've heard it's the hidden service tdsserv.sys that's the culprit. you have to disable the service then use tdsservkiller.exe to remove it. i didn't find this out until after i did a format/reinstall so i don't know if it actually works.

Thanks. I considered that, but it wasn't the culprit. It looks as if my problem has been fixed. I just have to fire of a few log files from scans to www.windowsbbs.com to double check that everything is ok.
