That's what I do.
No VPS.
I have total control over all gears.
Money wise, not sure there is a big difference. But if you want 32 cores and lots of memory, that will not be cheap.

I'm using a 4 years old Wintel Dell XPS, with 32 Mb of RAM and 12 cores (24 threads).
And I'm using LogMeIn as the remote access software.

My thoughts only: Back testing and forward testing is stupid and waste of time. It does not work.

I prefer waking up every morning and guessing and taking my best shot trading. Yes, gambling trading.

In these modern times, an algo can greatly reduce thinking/stress/pressure and increase overall profits.

So yes, I am back testing now to get me an algo to make money
