levitation, you'd be playing in a very dangerous game
do you have student loans to repay ?
one of the major threats of futures trading is 'overloss'
this occurs when the price goes against your position, blows thru your stop, and
your trade is finally closed a few thousand dollars below your entry, resulting in a
loss in your account greater than the last balance, meaning you have 24 hours to
repay what you owe - think of the May 5 ES crash
if you want to trade trade forex
demo accounts are usually unlimited, many fx brokers provide MetaTrader 4 - MT4 -
which is an excellent charting/order entry program
many brokers offer micro and mini accounts and with some brokers you can trade
will as little as $1
don't write you have an interview on an application, say you work contruction for
your father, say you've got x years trading experience, brokers don't check
fx/currency trading is very similar to trading the ES and there's NO OVERLOSS
fx leverage is being lowered to 50:1 in the US but still much higher in other countries
also the margin to hold a position overnight does not increase so fx lends itself to
day-to-days trading
demo trade for a while and see how you get on then decide how much you want to
open an account with - $250 $500 $1,000 some brokers have minimums but you've
got more than required with $3K
some 'offshore' fx brokers offer the ES but the commission is $15-25 rt
some fx brokers - there's hundreds:
http://fxtrade.oanda.com/ doesn't offer MT4, uses own dedicated software FXTrade
i use Oanda and enter orders via their software but do analysis on an MT4 demo
http://www.alpari-us.com/ MT4 only
http://www.fxcm.com/ offers MT4 and its own software
etc, etc, etc
fx specific forums:

http://www.moneytec.com/index.php
no doubt there'll be some flames screaming 'fx bucket shops' etc by wankers who
don't know any better and losers who know fa about trading, but bear in mind the
people who regulate futures trading - CFTC and NFA are the same ones regulating
fx brokers - similar for EU countries also
