its just not a business (definition of which I put above) from any POV, which in some sense makes it even harder for many people to master

Hunting is a business to the hunter who hunts for a living.
Completely irrelevant comment, just so you know.
If you begin with an expectation of -10%, probably you should end up with that number on the positive side. Not that it is not possible, but expecting anything beyond 20% could be getting into the greed zone and may boomerang.
