Realli Strange!!! SPAN Margin Naked Options

I am selling strangles on SPX and NDX in Interactive Brokers. The thing is that I am really frustrated with these weird SPAN margin requirements. It is not only that the margin is too big, it's also that a lot of weird things are happening and I can give no explanation at all. For instance, today I was short 3 NDX March calls and I wanted to roll over my position to next month. I bought back the March calls but all of a sudden I couldn't sell even ONE of the April calls. Then I discovered that the only way I could sell the April options was if I was long an NDX future!!!!! Has anybody come through the same issues? Any potential solutions, margin friendly options brokers? I would appreciate any help

NDX is either subject to RegT or PM. PM is not SPAN.

you should call your broker.

they have the full picture regarding your account and can explain why you couldn't buy.

my broker had a bug which wouldn't release margin properly sometimes. I would call them and they would override it.
