Real time short interest

I would like to know that too, but my understanding is that short interest is only released once a month, around the 20th of the month or so. The exchanges consider it proprietary information, and only the specialists and market markers have that info real time. (Another one of their many little edges over the general trading public.) But I hope I am wrong and someone does have a source of real time short interest info. The best I've got is the company profile on Yahoo financial. Anyone got something better than that?
 
Let's face it: Why should anybody except specialists and market makers know what the current short interest is? That would be a good indication of where the stock is going. :)
 
I did a search prior to posing the Q and found nothing real time or less than one month. Did notice some tech stocks in Oct w/12 month high for short interest, could poss. explain their large run-up.
 
Have you tried <a href="http://www.schaeffersresearch.com/streetools/sentiment_brief.asp?ticker_symbol=undefined">Schaeffer's?</a> I don't know how often it's updated.
