When I open task manager in XP and select the processes tab then add the column under 'mem usage' it is significantly less than the total commit charge under the performance tab.
A lot of the program's memory usage is swapped out to VM. Also the OS uses A LOT of memory for stacks & heaps and stuff that doesn't show up in the Taskman as a distinct process.
