For long term investing, you can check out William O'Neil's book:
How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad, Fourth Edition

He will tell you his CAN-SLIM method. O'Neil is the founder of Investor Business Daily.
But I personally CANT-STAND it because I am a short-term trader.

Imo, hook up with the religion of your choice, maybe buy an annuity and pretty much you can be assured the church will be around the next 100 years.
