RBG passed

One of the downsides of the warp-speed confirmation process is that the nominee needs to be ready to go in short order. Usually they drag the process out to give them time to study up and rehearse with the practice team.

There will still be plenty of that but it will be wicked condensed this time around.

Fortunately, neither of the top potential nominees are stupid so they more or less live in a state of being up to speed. Not something that would work out for someone who needs a teleprompter to order a cup of coffee. Joe, I am looking at you.

I think they should still do what they can to gum up the works as a matter of principle.

I actually agree with this, to a point. Democrats should use every tool in their power to thwart the process of getting a candidate appointed to the SCOTUS, and every legal mechanism the Constitution allows. Republicans would.

What Democrats should not do is fear, intimidation, rioting, bullying, arson and destruction of property.

I think a confirmation before the election would be best for democrats. It will have a full airing of the issue for the public to digest and allow for republican senators to be on the record with their vote. A 50-50 vote with Pence as the tie breaker would be ideal, imo, but I think they’ll get 52 straight up.

Republican senators being on the record won't matter to 99.999% of voters. And I'm being generous with that assessment.

Interesting perspective. Worth mulling over.

Sometimes you have to take a loss with dignity and maximize where gains can be made.

The public knows the GOP senate is running a scam on them with judges and by a 2:1 margin want the winner of the election to fill the open seat because the first and foremost ramifications are going to be on healthcare. The only way to ensure continued protections for pre x is a Democrat senate and president. That right there is a nationwide winning issue democrats need to hammer home.

Democrats should not get caught up in a knock down drag out fight on something they cannot stop. They need to focus on the here and now.

Republicans will gladly pay even the worst electoral price immediately for short term loses because in the long run this is a bad deal for democrats - this is not saying republicans will automatically lose across the board in 2020 either, just that the ebb and flow of elections tends to transfer power pretty consistently.

I disagree, some us are fed up with the Dems willingness to get paid to lose, allowing the GOP to do irreparable damage to the country. The lines are drawn, what's the point of capitulating to risk the 5 swing voters with their head in the sand?

There's enough ammo to start impeachment of william Barr and follow it a half dozen times with Trump

More food for thought, and closer to my line of thinking.

Impeaching the president and Barr will not stop the scotus nomination. It’s politics, plain and simple and the senate will simply dismiss both and quite frankly - rightly. Even if there is plenty to impeach both on the motive is to stop a scotus appointment and that sullies the whole thing.

Dems are at a disadvantage in the senate and through gerrymandering, the only way to correct that is to take both chambers and the presidency. No discussion needed here.

The Supreme Court is lost for democrats for a couple of decades. It’s awful for the country but it is what it is. That does not mean the legislative and executive branches are.
