USA Today re-designed their print paper and their website. Both are an epic fail. Almost all of their paper circulation is in hotels, and that can only drop over time. Their fall will no doubt begin accelerating now.

I remember when they first came out and everybody hated them. They used color photos, a different font, and shorter stories. But I liked it, and they succeeded against the odds. Now I have to say their time is short.

City of the day: Knoxville, TN.

Knoxville was thought of as the "big city" where I grew up in rural southeastern Kentucky, about 70 miles away.

Auto of the day: Lexus.

There was a lot of buzz about Lexus when they first came out back in the early 90's. They were the most reliable car on the road and they were billed as affordable luxury. In the brokerage office where I worked, all new hires were required to write down their goals and I put down that I wanted a Lexus, but one of the other brokers in the office had never even heard of a Lexus, (this was 1991). Do people still regard them as prestigious cars? There's a Lexus in the spot next to mine in the parking lot and it has Jesus and Tea Party bumper stickers in the rear window.
