Liberal or Conservative Democratic doesn't matter
Its the philosophy of the party.
The philosophy of the Democratic party is top down, more Government and that does lead to authoritarian power...such as slavery, Jim Crow, Japanese interment, confiscation of private gold holdings
The Conservative philosophy is opposite. It took the Republicans ,mostly the evangelist to move the abolitionist effort
That’s an argument. I will give you that. Is it a true argument, no.
Try to understand conservative and liberal mean very different things all around the world and have changed over the past 150 years here in America but what is important to understand about American political philosophy is that it is regional based - north and south.
This has been what has been the constant, even with westward expansion. Northern philosophy has been economically industrial and socially liberal and southern philosophy economically agrarian and socially conservative.
You are correct in that northern philosophy seeks to use the government to solve problems - environmental, health, safety whereas the southern philosophy tends to be less government. The reason for this is industrialized economies actually need more organization and regulation to sustain whereas agrarian don’t.
Where your theory fails is that you claim conservatives don’t use the government to create oppressive societies for their social agenda. Whereas liberals want less government in things like segregation, denial of business and services, birth control, religion in education conservatives want more.
It is understood as fact that the north and south switched their voting parties after the civil rights act of 1964 due to Lyndon Johnson being the president. But what goes under the radar is the between the election of Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon Johnson the conservative south would not vote republican because Lincoln ended slavery.
I know I am wasting my time but it is important that people at least be told the truth.
