RAM for a Dell T3600 workstation

Computer used for trading only. 4- 24" monitors.

Just upgrade this computer from W7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro, and also added a Samsung SSD.

Want to add RAM, from 8 GB, to 16 or 32 GB. Software (broker/trading app etc) using 45-50% of the memory, so a bit high.

Question: Should I buy Dell parts, or would any memory module suffice? Thinking Cruicial, Kingston etc.

Dell hardware upgrades are (usually) notoriously expensive.

Check Newegg and/or Crucial.

Dell don't make their own RAM.
+1 for NewEgg. Good price and good service if something goes wrong.

Just make sure to buy the right RAM type.
 
If you are "adding to" you existing RAM, get the exact same specs... voltage, timings, etc (doesn't have to be the same brand).

If you are replacing your old RAM, your mobo likely takes ECC or NECC RAM (either, not mixed). NECC RAM may be significantly less expensive.
 
Hmm, you're using four 24" monitors. I wonder if there is some rule-of-thumb for how much video memory on the graphics card is required for each monitor. Will it use system RAM if the video card memory is saturated?

Here's my stats: W7/8GB of RAM...memory usage around 65%. After upgrading to W10, with a new SSD, and the same 8GB of RAM, 45-48% memory usage.

Now, after upgrading RAM to 32GB, memory usage is down below 15%.

(CPU never was an issue, only around the 10-15% utilization).

More...

In a trading environment there is virtually zero chance of "saturating" the GPU... (as opposed to gaming where the entire screen may need to be redrawn miltiple time per second).

Graphics requirements in a trading rig are actually very low.

You need to know us which motherboard on which socket and on which chipset you are using here anyway. So we can add some good situations to that for sure. As for GPU, you can upgrade to some CPU with built in one and use some splitter for the rest.
