A recently opened account might not be the type that allows API access, which is what QT requires. Depending on what you got enabled, like "Portfolio Margin Account" or futures. If you got those two things for example, the account will not work with QT or any other 3rd party software.

If that is not the case, login could fail for other reasons too - basically if QT cannot connect to the servers for any reason, you would get the same type of feedback.

Does IE work on the same computer? If not, QT will not work (regardless of what your default browser is

IE works on my computer.

I opened a stock and futures account with them.
It is not a portfolio margin account.

It is the futures that is my main interest and I was hoping to use QT to display those charts

ok, thats the problem. Futures accounts do not work via their API. Basically no futures trading or quotes and even enabling the account for futures breaks access to the API.

that is not going to happen. Basically, MT is written in C# and uses a lot of WinAPI stuff. Might be able to run it on WINE or something like that. Have not tried
