you have to extract the contents of the patch zip file into the QuoteTracker install folder, overwriting the existing files. You cannot just run the executable that is in it
 
When I first start QT a popup says newer web components available should I update?

Do I need to register to be able to get streaming IB data?

Sorry I am sure this has been asked a 1000 times.

if you applied the patch correctly, you should not need registration and would not need any updates (TDA doesn't update anything for QT anymore anyway)
Check in the HELP/About... menu that you have 3.9.8a version (note the a)

Right click on a chart...go to "Select Indicators"...and just above "Select Indicators" is "Chart Type"...tick/volume etc. etc.
