QuoteTracker having mini seizures...

Quote from Gord:

Been using QT for a couple of years and recently decided to explore swing trading (I normally day trade). This meant opening quite a few more charts. But when I get up to ten running QT begins to studder and freeze. The feed continues OK, but working with the charts (moving them, drawing, scrolling, etc.) becomes a lesson in patience. Every few seconds the program freezes for a fraction of a second. It can also be noticed in the moving bar indicator beneath the feed connect button - it stops and starts in coordination with the freezes. The problem is definitely connected to the feed, as when I turn the feed off all functionality returns to the charts - but of course no updated data.

For your additional charts, are they volume charts?

Just a guess...

Mostly good news. The modified stock.exe file that Jerry installed has cleared up the problem about 90%. I currently have 22 small, ten-day intraday charts running, including SPY and DIA. I also opened one medium sized chart to test scrolling and line drawing.

Although there is still a very slight bit of hesitation periodically, I can now live with QT again. I just hope it does not deteriorate with time, inevitable program bloat, and the evolution of my charting. I will still try a few more things at my end to see if I can find if there is an incompatibilty, but for the time being I am satisfied.

I suggest you email Jerry at QT to get the stock.exe file. Please report to this thread whether it works for you or not. Thanks.

No - they are just simple time-based charts with only volume as an indicator. I am trading breakouts and fades using ten day intradayday charts set to one bar per day to get the projected volume. When a trade initiates I set them to one hour bars. It is sort of a swing trade strategy that I day trade.

Thanks Gord, as soon as I make some progress I will report back .
Thanks for sharing your info It is appreciated.
It seems that the freezing chart movement, trend lines, scrolling, etc. are only symptoms of a larger feed display problem. Jerry is still working on it. Check the moving dot below the feed button. Does it stop in coordination with your chart freezes? Also open Pressure in the protfolio screen and tell me if it freezes in coordination as well. Thanks.

How do you set intraday charts to show one bar per day?

R-click intraday chart/Frequency/Custom Frequency/390 minutes/OK

After a full week of working on this problem many hours per day, QT operation is still not resolved to a comfortably usable state. One of the .exe files Jerry made worked for a while, but as data built up in the program the problem re-emerged.

I am now investigating Multicharts as an alternative.

Thanks for everyone's help on this issue. Too bad it didn't work out. But at least I now have a shiney new operating system, tweaked and programed to as close to perfection as I can get it - that's the bright side... :)
