I just finished developing an end-of-day quote downloader, QuotesTK, that groups securities based on the index they belong to. It automatically checks for new security additions, as well as, those that are delisted. With multi-threading support, it is pretty darn quick. More indices will be added in the future but for only $12.95 one-time cost, I think it is a deal.

I have just fixed a bug that I found in QuotesTK after releasing the initial release. I uploaded the new version and it can be downloaded through my website below. For those who downloaded the app, please re-download the historical quotes to insure accuracy. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Would you mind being a little more explicit? Does it only lock up when downloading the DOW, or others as well? Does the program give a error and crash or only freeze? Also, what does the text box display when the lock up occurs?

The DOW component list is downloaded from Yahoo unlike the S&P indices in which the list is downloaded directly from Standard & Poors. For some reason the DOW list takes longer. However, should the list timeout after 7 seconds, it should continue downloading the quotes based on the most recent updated list.

I found the daily updated list available on Dow Jones' website so I will incorporate this as the source for security information instead of Yahoo in the next release.

Released version 1.02 of QuotesTK which now supports dividend and split adjusted historical data. Also included new indices in the basket, as well as, some other minor improvements. All Dow Jones lists are now downloaded directly from Dow Jones instead of Yahoo.
