Traderzone - neither FDIC nor PBGC are properly funded. They belong on the list because their funding status is forcing these other decisions to be made - ie, FDIC's inability to deal with large banks leads directly to bank capital injections and "bailouts" disguised as stimulus..

The airlines also needed federal assistance in the last round of bankruptcies, so I would agree with you that the auto situation is similar. ;)

I would also add that neither is there much speculation re: mortgages, as we have already seen the first steps of that occur in the non-conforming markets.
