Question: how to deal with trolls? Can't anybody do something about them?

How is The Trouble With Scribbles any different from your example of Price Action Trading is Total Crap?

I can understand your desire to post your point of view there, I've never been a fan of ET's 'there's only one way to do this' brigade, but you went on and on in the same way that is being condemned in this thread.

Someone like Surf believes passionately that his POV is the right one. Would you tolerate him expressing it as vigorously?

And for the record, I do believe in keeping an open mind. I have no overall objection to SLA, I draw lines as much as anyone else. If I disagree with anything, it is some of the terminology that reinvents what is commonly used, and some of the conclusions drawn. Heck, I've even read a lot of the stuff in the series of journals you kept. It is as good or as bad as any other way of trading.

It is precisely because of this that I am on the side of keeping debate going without silencing dissenting voices; it will only strangle the diversity and richness.

I do agree that one should be more circumspect when posting in Journals. That is the OPs house and should be respected as such. Post a dissenting view by all means, then leave it be. As for other threads, all's fair as far as I'm concerned.

As I said, I have no problem with dissenting opinions IF the person expressing that opinion has at least read the material. Otherwise it's just hijacking. There are many people here trading in ways that have nothing to do with PA, but I don't travel from thread to thread to thread as BS does proselytizing about how the Holy Graille is Guessing&Hoping and risking no more than 2%TLNW. Disagreement is one thing. Obsession is something else entirely.

Let me give you an analogy to explain in better terms what dbphoenix is trying to say.

It's like three guys standing in a bar talking about football and then another one comes up and says, "Football is such a ridiculous sport. It's dangerous and stupid. That's my opinion."

Then one of the three guys replies, "Yeah, not everybody is into football." And then he goes back to conversing with his friends about last week's game. Within a few seconds, the guy that doesn't like football repeats his sentence, "Football is such a ridiculous sport. It's dangerous and stupid. I have no idea why you guys are even wasting your time talking about it."

Then another one of the three guys says, "Yeah, we got it the first time. Would you mind backing off?" But the guy that doesn't like football just won't shut up, and in fact keeps repeating himself over and over to the point that it's impossible for the 3 buddies to have a normal conversation about something they're really interested in without being interrupted. So what happens next?

The football hater gets his ass knocked out for being a fucking disruptive idiot. Now that's the way it works in the real world, and the way it should work. Unfortunately in the online world we don't have a knockout punch available, so we must do the next best thing which is allow people in a like minded conversation to be able to completely block out trolls who's sole purpose is to disagree with the entire premise of the conversation.

I sense what will happen with the new feature is increase in aliases. Ignore button works, new feature needs more consideration IMHO.

just means more names to put on ignore once it's obvious that they're a troll. No big deal!

ES journal had lots of so called trolls, but it survived, as ignore button does exactly that, people should have a freedom of choice whose posts to read and whose to ignore, this will effectively evolve ET threads into a censored community and it may backfire.

Yep. That's it. And I hope your solution works out.

And speaking of solutions, will the max size for uploads ever be increased? I'd just as soon not have to keep providing links outside ET.

people should behave themselves!

Which is indicative of just the sort of obsessive behavior that moderation is supposed to curb.

This is a trading forum, not Ding Dong School.

So you posting an image of a bear in my thread makes you a troll. Congrats!
