question about SPY and MES

Does the MES follow the SPY or SPY follow the MES?

Very much intertwined....BUT cash is king and during the day session it is the cash index that leads but traders are very aware of what the MES or better, the ES is doing overnight etc.

ES follows SPX during the day, with algo's twisting the price.
