Hi all. I’m new to trading individual names and a bit confused about earnings releases. Even on the earnings trading dedicated sites, the earnings release times are designated as “before market opens” or “after market closes.” Do companies not give specific release times? If not, what is a cheap, ideally free, news source that reveals the results in real time? Thanks!

If you are looking to take advantage of trading earnings releases, you will need a lot more than a free/cheap source for the release. The market reacts within 10 seconds of the release which is faster than you can humanly read the release, much less interpret it. The professional traders and institutions have pre-programmed algos to react based on different earnings numbers.
I’m well aware of that and sure as he’ll know I won’t beat the algos. Just go to the company's website, click on investor relations, and look under "news". They always publish the day and if its before or after the bell at least a few weeks in advance.I’m well aware of that and sure as he’ll know I won’t beat the algos. If its after the bell, most companies pretty much release right at 4PM EST, however some might go at 4:15 or 4:30, for those look at the timestamp on their prior releases. Use PR-Newswire for that if you can't find the exact time on their website of old releases.
