You are correct. European style. They cannot be excercised early.

The main point I was trying to make concerned the settlement procedures.

European style / American style
AM / PM settlement


SPX quarterlies are European style AND PM settlement.

Quarterlies are just another opportunity to bring in some premium. I never play them until the last week before expiration. Then I will try to sell premium on SPY, XLE, DIA, and IWM options.
