Yes, everyone has their own preference. If you are into playing games buy AMD. I have never seen AMD in enterprise computing. I would not recommend cutting corners and buy AMD for trading or anything that is mission critical.

A matter of fact, the development software I use for CASE (computer aided systems engineering) do not support AMD. Don't get me wrong, if AMD turns your crank, go for it. Be aware intel and AMD use slight differant micro coding. There will be some app software incompatibilities.

And so you know Intel chips in games, rendering, cad, dcc, perform slightly better than AMD chips but cost more for only like maybe 10-30% speed difference which you will never notice.

I don't care, tell corporate that and see what happens. I've had bad experience on AMD.

Many of the bench markets are based on instruction that work best on that processor. If AMD is that great it would take over intel. If AMD works for you, go for it. AMD is not for me...

In a corporate world, you will never get fired using IBM, Intel and Microsoft. It's not to say there is no market for Linux, Apple, AMD, Dell and such.

My last two boxes are HP makes using AMD processors. Athlon chip. Used them for a few years and didn't have problem with either. But the chips were too slow for my need of today. I use TradeStation primarily for charting. If there is a difference between running TradeStation on Intel versus AMD, I didn't notice. If all vendors are using "standards", then supposedly all things are compatible.

I've used MetaStock for years. They officially recommend, "Intel CPU, Intel chipset". I did, however, run the predecessor to MetaStock Pro (MetaStock RT) on an AMD rig with no problems.... back in the '90s.

What a lot of nonsense. AMD did well on the server side with Opterons. They have been set back a bit in that market with the latest crop of Intel server class CPUs but are still a very serious player.

I'd like to hear what software that a trader may possibly be interested in that won't run on AMD CPUs. Just one.

Which CASE product are you talking about? And is it demonstrably the case that it won't run on AMD or the CASE vendor is just doesn't officially support AMD. Hard facts please.

The corporation does not support AMD. Issues with websphere, all fusion gen, coupling. If I recommend AMD, 10 guys would jump me. Corp pays and they get what they want. You can rant all you want about AMD, unless you call the shots, most enterprise shops, it's intel inside. Actually i never come across AMD in enterprise computing. Especially desktop.

If AMD is that great maybe corp should retool and buy. Tell them that. I know what works best for me. If you like AMD, knock yourself out, stick with AMD, not me.

You are the one doing the ranting. I actually only have Intel boxes at the moment because Intel made the most sense at the time I bought them. before that I had AMD. If I was to buy another box right now a six core AMD looks to be great value for money.

If AMD is that great maybe corp should retool and buy. Tell them that. I know what works best for me. If you like AMD, knock yourself out, stick with AMD, not me.

Sure, but i would recommend, spend the extra 10 bucks and get a box with intel inside. It's not a big price differance for No issues.
Many list AMD is supported but does it work? No matter how minor, there are issues. Why mess with it. Just like ubuntu, it's free linux os. Many say it's better than winx, I would not recommend it for peoples starting out. That's another thread..
What is irrelevant is => 4 core, trading software does not require 4 cores, in couple years it will, buy => 4 core cpu then when prices drop. Maybe something new and faster will come out.
If you like AMD and many cores improves your trading go for it.

I bought a backup workstation from dell for $317 refurb with nice graphics card 2 months ago. Runs great, I don't need latest cpu for trading. Spent the savings on accurate saltwater reel :)
