In Canada we study history far more comprehensively than your failing schools, it is CLEAR from history that US government has over the years managed to convince Canadian governments that we don't need an army, and that US WILL PROTECT US.
In fact even when we designed at the time superior fighter jet called AVRO ARROW, American government threatened us with import bans unless we cease and desist production immediately. USA is the reason we no longer have good army.

if i was a putin- i would open the border and would welcome any russian from ukraine OR anyone,who believe that he is russian. give them a citizenship and some support for a fresh start. and then- i would be a greatest leader in the world,who DID prevent a civil war. i will be adored by whole entire world and collect nobel peace prize. in fact- i would demand obama's to be handed to me. and i will be in the history of the world in same level as a gandhi , no less. yes, it would cost me some money, big hole in budget,but hey! wasn't worth it? instead-putin chooses to support war at his border that doesn't make any sense. even those,who are fighting have no clue what they are fighting for!
