Ukrainian police have uncovered what they believe to be a Russian torture chamber where the fillings in prisoners’ teeth were pulled out and some buried alive. The discovery of the horrific basement dungeon came as defense forces continue to push Russian troops back in the north, despite Vladimir Putin’s recent claim that four areas of Ukraine were now part of Russia.
Regional police said yesterday that after Russian troops had been pushed out of the village of Pisky-Radkivski, on the eastern bank of the Oskil river near Izyum, they received statements from local residents about the torture chamber.
Serhii Bolvinov, head of the investigations department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, said in a statement: “Neighbours could hear screams from there all the time.”
Russians were said to have held local residents and prisoners of war in a basement of one of the houses, where police found a “terrible torture chamber”.
Mr Bolvinov said the police were aware of the use of burying alive as a form of torture at the site, as well as the use of a gas mask with a smouldering rag to choke prisoners.

He added: “A dildo, a box with torn dentures, wires with ropes and a letter with an interview of one of the men who were there were also found in the torture chamber.”
In disturbing imagery reminiscent of previous ghastly war crimes, pictures produced by the Ukrainian police show a plastic box from the site filled with fragments of metal dentures and fillings.
Another image shows a gas mask beside what appears to be a burnt rag, which would be lit and prisoners made to inhale.
Mr Bolvinov said that the police were aware of the names of the servicemen who had been tortured by Russian troops there and that the investigation was ongoing.

He added: “Justice will find everyone guilty.”
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence likened the discovery to a “mini Auschwitz”.
The village of Pisky-Radkivski had largely been in Russian hands since the invasion began in February, but recent pushes by the Ukrainian armed forces against depleted and beleaguered occupying troops have made sweeping gains in the region.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have ceded large stretches of land in the Kharkiv region back to Ukrainian control as troops hastily retreated to avoid being encircled.
Putin tries to push his propaganda in the World Court. There is really no factual response that Russia can make that it is not committing genocide in Ukraine.

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Russia has submitted preliminary objections to a genocide case against Moscow brought by Ukraine, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) said Thursday.
At the ICJ, the United Nations highest court for disputes between states, parties can file preliminary objections if they believe the court does not have jurisdiction in a case.
The filing, which the court tweeted Thursday it had received on Oct. 3, has not been made public.
In a letter to the United Nations court in March, Moscow argued that the ICJ, also known as the World Court, did not have jurisdiction because the genocide convention does not regulate the use of force between states.
The filing signifies a change in Moscow's attitude to the ICJ case. Russia is now engaging with the court, whereas it has previously skipped hearings and not filed documents directly with the court.
Ukraine filed a case with the ICJ shortly after Russia's invasion began on Feb. 24, saying that Moscow's stated justification, that it was acting to prevent a genocide in eastern Ukraine, was unfounded.
During hearings in March, Ukraine said there was no threat of genocide in eastern Ukraine, and that the U.N.'s 1948 Genocide Convention, which both countries have signed, does not allow an invasion to prevent one.
After those hearings, which Russia had skipped, ICJ judges ordered Russia to stop the invasion of Ukraine as an emergency measure while it looked into the merits of Ukraine's claim.
The next step in the case will be a hearing on the objections against the jurisdiction of the court. No date for such a hearting has been set yet, but it is expected to be several months away.

German outlets are reporting that a local dentist said his house was raided and some teeth he keeps went missing. At this point I'm not sure which side I believe as there are plenty of Kremlin ballwashers in Germany, it's not like pulled teeth would look any different done by a dentist or a torturer (save for fresh tissue and perhaps discoloration).A in-depth article with more details and pictures. The reporters met with the dentist and showed him a photo of the box, which was widely shared across social media as evidence of Russia’s torture tactics.
“The teeth look like those stolen from my office,” the dentist, identified as Serhiy, explained.
“My house was burglarized. They used to belong to people I have treated all these years. I removed these teeth because they were bad.”
The doctor suggested that the invaders had stolen the teeth because they assumed they were made of gold, when in fact they were stainless steel.
"The locals told me that the Russians probably used them to intimidate people," Serhii said.
Law enforcement in Kharkiv Oblast discovered the torture chamber while examining the liberated village, the head of investigations for Kharkiv Oblast police, Serhiy Bolvinov, wrote on Facebook on Oct. 4.
The chamber was discovered thanks to a tip from local residents, who directed law enforcement to the basement of a local residence where Russian occupation forces were holding kidnapped civilians, Ukrainian military veterans, and prisoners-of-war, Bolvinov said.
“Neighbors constantly heard screams from there,” he wrote.
“At the moment, the police definitely know about the tortures like burying someone alive and then digging them out, and using a gas mask with a smoldering rag. Another objects that were found in the torture room include a dildo, a box with torn dentures, wires with ropes, and a letter containing an interrogation transcript of one of the men who was held there.”
