Why not eliminate all public pension plans for Govt / Public employees and have them receive standard social security benefits?

Take all the funds and beef up the Social safety net... Teachers Pensions, Congressman Pensions, Police, military et all.

If you choose to be a public servant you should receive the same benefits as provided to the "real" tax payers. There is no reason for a retired police commissioner to receive a $500K annual pension and be contracted as a part time consultant for another $500K. Whatever the legal justification is an irrelevant sham... Its just fraud and thievery.

All of our cities, schools and public services are crumbling because the tax base has decreased and the unfunded pension liabilities are increasing well past any ponzi scheme.

Infact, pass a federal law that states any deviation would be deemed a bribe.

The original idea was to volunteer to serve the public interest and than get back to your life. When over 40% of our tax payers are public servants being paid out of taxes the system is unsustainable.

You've got congress raping and pillaging accounts left and right. The postal service is being bankrupted not through its operations but by congress enacting they prepay 70 years of pension funds so they can back door it somewhere else.

Lets see how well this police commissioner can lie on his SS benefit of $1867 / month.

I don't think the general public has any clue on how many Seniors are only able to survive because of SS and medicare.

you are kidding,right? cause if you even try that-you will see a revolution, riots etc.. remember Minnesota protest about year ago?
governor was PROPOSING to cut TEMPORARY guaranteed salary and pensions increases. like from increase 6% every year(not bad,huh?) to like 2 or 4. haven't you seen what happens next? google it.

i'm with you, and been saying same thing for a decade,but hey...who would listen? being public servant use to mean accept lower than private sector salary and shitty job for EARLY retirement and REASONABLE guaranteed benefits. when servant start making 2-3-5 times more than masters-that's ain't right..it should be very simple-if servants salary EXCEEDS or even getting close to private sector-they should be substituted with private sector. cause it's capitalism and because it's cheaper for local gvt.i would fire all those Minnesota teachers,who did protest and hire substitute. just to give them a lesson. so they can realize that they are not untouchable or have some sort of unique skills. cause they don't. average teacher's salary in my area is 100-120K! police officer-100K. it's not a sustainable model. it's a greek style ..and ending will be similar.
 
You realize that this has all become about because of unions. And the union's and the democrats basically have been engaging in criminal racketeering for decades and the result is bankruptcy of cities and states. Unions vote dem's and the dem's give the unions big paydays. And it all comes from the taxpayer (the private sector folk). So, the dem's get their power hungry needs filled with guaranteed votes and the unions get their greedy little pots filled and the good guy's pay for it all! It is one of the biggest scam's/fraud's ever and even good ole President Kennedy warned about this.

If this shit was going on in the private sector, we would need to build more prisons to keep up with the criminals.

"Public Servant" - an ironic if not downright oxymoronic term. The so-called servants of the public are more like public enslavers. They are a special class of untouchables by way of having a stranglehold on essential services.

My pet peeve is the grade school teachers. After being paid hansomely for a few years for teaching '2 + 3 = 5' and 'B is for ball' they retire early on exorbitant pensions. Sure, they perform a necessary task but their rewards should be concommitant with the difficulty of that task.

New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento yesterday said the state’s labor leaders were throwing “everything we can” into the fight to oust the union-busting Walker on June 5 and stop the anti-union movement from spreading to other states.

“It’s not just bodies,” said Cilento. “It’s phones, it’s printing, it’s contributions — it’s everything!”

The recall effort is seen nationally as a test of whether labor and the Democratic Party can beat back such Walker tactics as reducing benefits for teachers and other unionized government workers.

Unions have become the biggest parasites and leeches to the USA.
 
What needs to happen is for taxpayers to start to rally against these thugs. These unions are basically robbing and raping their private sector neighbors and friends.
