Psycho Cybernetics, Maxwell Maltz

Quote from hughb:

I have the abridged version on audio cassette from Audio Renaissance in 1988. It contains not only text from the book, but recordings of Maltz in his seminars. The things I liked most about it was how compassionate and understanding Dr. Maltz sounded. I haven't listened to it in years, but I'll give it another listen some time soon.

RE: NLP mentioned earlier in this thread; I have not found any practical use for it. I've read and listened to many books and tapes about it and while it works very well at getting me to pucker up and salivate while imagining myself biting into a lemon, it offers no help whatsoever in stock selection :p I would also imagine the techniques it used for curing phobias work well considering how much time is spent on that subject. Again, since I have no phobias, I still found no value in it.

Don't know if this is NLP but damn good book for dealing with people in a sales situation.

I read Psycho-Cybernetics several years ago, and I just finished reading it again. It really is a worthwhile read.

As for the folks who advocated NLP:

Quote from pairsarbtooo:

Wasn't Bandler though a prominent accepted psychologist? I mean, didn't this guy do research so at least there might be something to what he says?

bandler was "popular" in a sense, but from what i've been told he was never "prominent" or respected in the psychological community. his research was primarily based on case studies and anecdotal reports, it is my understanding that no empirical validation exists for NLP. however, i'm not saying it doesn't work.....

personally, NLP has been somewhat beneficial for me, but only to a rather limited degree. i have found other things that are better...or at least in addition to NLP.

there are lots of people running around with NLP certs claiming all sorts of things.....its a buyer beware market for sure.

bottom line as far as i'm concerned....imo, if your trading is suffering due to a psychology or discipline issue....you're gonna need more than NLP.

forgot to mention that Maltz is good, i use related things.......but again, if you have discipline issues chances are you need more than positive thinking.
