it depends on the isp you choose. DSL is definitely out of the question, cable maybe depends on the provider.
I am not sure about beijin, but shanghai is very high tech since alot of the infrastructure are brand new. If you are serious, probably should just lease a dedicated or shared t1 line there, then speed wont ever be a problem.
Also you need a ups backup, especially during the summer when you got like a gazallion of those HUGE ac units all running. Sometime power would hiccup causing your pc to reboot without ups.
