MDL, your intentions were pure, I apologize for taking it the wrong way. I just do not believe your advice forwarded-me in the least bit.

I am just confidant in my abilities to conceptualize the market place, and have an outlook of what's next.

I just want to find a place to develop my raw talent.

To form a concept or concepts of, and especially to interpret in a conceptual way: "Efforts to conceptualize the history and structure of the universe were already running into trouble because . . . the universe was not as uniform as had been assumed" (John Noble Wilford).

I am glad this has caused a stir in thought processes.

I know the thread is about Austin firms, but if you are willing to relocate (temporarily for a year or 2 to at least learn) you might want to contact First New York securities.

They have one of the few training programs (from what I have heard) that is actually geared for long term success..

It is very hard to get into their program, but if you do, and do well, I dont see any reason why you couldnt trade from any location as long as you are adding value to their firm.
 
if your in austin .. check out the warrior fund......i have no idea if they are interested in adding but know the owner
who is a incredible trader and good guy.

Thanks MDL for the post, I have family in Queens, and NJ and have thought about making the move there to get started...

I wrestled with the idea for some time, as to where I wanted to live and work as a trader...

I have heard nothing but good things about Austin Texas.
So I decided to move here and give it a shot...

I have heard of The Warrior Fund, LLC.
May very well look into them as well...

Why didn't you mention your UNC Investment Management degree in the first place? I'm sure KTG has a seat for you based soley on that point........ in fact, that exact seat was previously occupied by a Duke undergrad/UNC MBA/ Harvard law grad who thought that his collection of Latin insribed pieces of parchment gave him a clearer understanding of what the future of the market held.... the seat is located on the edge of the trading floor, in the veritable grave yard littered with the memories of NYSE specialists and top tier graduates who thought their ability to conceptualize the future was better than our ability to react to the present and they stuck with their guns..... all the way to insolvency.

I would never discourage anyone from pursuing a trading career, but it sounds like what you've spent the last 18mos looking for the opportunity to make trades based on a timeline of weeks or months, whereas most of our trades are based on seconds & minutes, possibly hours, but rarely days.

The time you spent reading your two dozen trading books and researching esoteric Wilford quotes about conceptualizatoin could have been spent doing something useful, like learning to juggle. As Lewie Ranieri once said, "If you guys weren't trading, you'd be driving trucks.... don't think, just trade." Wiser words have never been spoken from a successful trader with only a high school diploma.

Good luck with your job search but keep those books around.... Texas winters are colder than one would think and heat isn't free.

LOL, of course one who would post such non-sense does not understand Intellectual Capital.

Any fucking fool can trade. Whether that Fool is "profitable or not is another story."

Reading to gain more knowledge is only for those that want to "Educate their Souls". Nothing wrong with have a shit load of Intellectual Capital. However, that does not guarnentee that you will be successful. Nor does being "poor and hungry.".

And being well educated does not mean that you will be successful.

There is not one "Formula" for becoming a successful trader. However, to say to an individual who reads and reads more about trading, going long his Intellectual Capital, that he is wasting his time, is absurd.

I come from the Jesuit ideas and teachings about "intellectual Capital". You can never learn to much, if you truly learn. However, to learn in order to "Work" is defeating. Yet, to learn in order to fill your soul, is rewarding.

Texan's in general are bumbling fucking idiots. Thats right, 90% of Texas are ass backwards country fucks.

The heat is so fucking cheap, it might as well be "FREE".

I have a 2400 square foot loft, downtown SA. My electric bill is 140, when AIR IS FULL BLAST. When I was back in Chicago, in a smaller loft, 200 to 250 in Electric. When I was in Miami, a loft smaller, my electric was close to the same as Chicago.

TEXAS IS FUCKING DIRT CHEAP! Sure, you can be a fool and pay the same prices as you would in Major Cities, but only the fools do that.

The overall cost of living is very very very very cheap.


ATX, is a progressive city. It does have Traffic like LA and 75000 screaming college kids. The over all feel of ATX is great. A lot of East and West Coast transplants in ATX, which has keept that city on its progressive run.

East and West are poring into TEXAS. Soon, the ass backwards State will be a very progressive and thriving state.

Texas is playing huge roll in the DEMS elections this
year, first time in 50 years.

The state is coming of age.

seeing how you're obviously operating on a much lower mental frequency than I am makes it easier to deal with your not so subtle accusation that i'm an ignorant, book burning nazi..... the intellectual capital i possess percludes me from honoring your remarks with a response....

the fact that i enjoy reading books about space travel doesn't make me any more qualified for a position with NASA than had i slept at a holiday inn last night (let's see if you can pick up on that zinger)....

It's an embarassment that i have to spell out to you that that was the point i was making with JC... one would think that your Jesuit education would have given a little more mental depth than that; i know mine did.....

congrats on becoming a homeowner in Bexar county..... 2400sf in downtown San Antonio is pretty baller (to be clear, that's dripping with sarcasm).... i can understand how you must be frustrated living in a city where the social scene revolves around a stagnant pool of artificially blue water and how that frustration would allow you to break into your off topic rants.
