Quote from a_person:
The land was originally called Canaan, and was inhabited by what one can say were the ancestors of Palestinians, but not that closely linked. The Hebrews that had to leave Egypt, basically came and settled Canaan in a not so friendly matter.
There is no evidence whatsoever that connects Palestinians to Canaanites. While it is generally thought that Canaanites originally migrated from the Arabian Peninsula even that has never been proven and if it was it would still not constitute a link between the Palestinians and ancient Canaanites. Moreover it has been argued that the Israelites were themselves Canaanites so this whole thing is a very moot point.
You're using Wikipedia as a source, lol. On this issue, not the place to go to.
Hebrews did come and take over Canaan, then renamed it Israel, broke it up into 12 states. The original Canaan inhabitants were into Paganism (which is actually the root of all religions). Their actual link to Palestinians is a stretch, I know, but it is closer than to the Hebrews, who were the invaders. The bloodlines are so mixed by now, so who knows. Romans did a number on that region as well. But the bottom line is that Israel has no god-given right whatsoever to just come in and take over the land like they have always owned it, then commit atrocities at their whim.
Someday, go research who the "Hebrews" really were and what the word really means. It has a lot less to do with the jewish religion than you realize.
The only thing it actually proves is that the two state solution was the right thing to do and we both know that the descendants of Israelites accepted the partition while the alleged descendants of Canaanites did not.
Solution? How would you feel if someone just came to you and said "guess what, these people are moving into your land. Oh and don't mind if they just start settling in your villages and shooting you down for "trespassing"" Get real.
I normally do not like debating this issue, becuase the real truth is that neither side has any special claim to the land. Its original inhabitants were neither Jewish nor Muslim and by now, their descendants are scattered all over the world. At the time, it was inhabited by Palestinians, who were not asked for their opinion or feedback about creating Israel. That's not a solution, it's a creation of a problem to accomplish certain goals.
Let's make something clear, Georgia has been on Russian's sh*t list ever since they sold out to USA in 1990s.
I don't understand, are you saying that this is somehow supposed to explain and justify their actions, that if a country pissed Russia off invading and bombing the crap out of it is OK?
Everyone knows that Russia and Georgia has a history of frictions (to put it mildly) actually going back centuries, not just a couple of decades, it's hardly news. Everyone also knows who starts each cycle of violence - Georgia has absolutely no interest in occupying Russia, Russia on the other hand occupied Georgia for a hundred years and now openly supports every separatist movement within Georgia. Whether Russia has or does not have geopolitical interests in that region in no way justifies the unprovoked, brutal and well-prepared aggression and invasion.
You don't know what you're talking about. The American puppets which serve as Georgian presidents has been trying for over a decade to take over South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The people there do not view themselves as Georgians and consider themselves as part of Russia. Period. They hate Saakashvili, and most Georgians do not like him either, being the American puppet dictator that he is. He is about as democratic as Iraq is right now, please, it's same old imperialistic games that USA has been playing for decades and Britain & France have been playing for centuries.
Even the American media (with its pro USA pro Georgia slant) have to state that Saakashvili launched an operation to take over South Ossetia. And if you weren't confined by the US media machine, you would have known early Thursday morning that they just went in and started taking over the region, at which point the locals and peacekeeping troops fought back. There have been small scuffles before but this time, the operation was very clear.
I have no surprise in how Russia reacted and Saakashvili knew exactly what he was starting. Russia would not be reasonable and has been waiting for this trigger. Russia views Georgia as a threat, just like they view USA's imprealistic games as a threat. Have you ever looked into the US military bases that have been going up in Georgia since early 1990s? I was reading articles forecasting this back in late 1990s.
The reality is that this is happening because the people who are truly in power want this to happen. It's not even about whether Russia or Georgia is at fault, once you get to the bottom of it.
