but there is manipulation in the markets. the futures are supposed to be the tail, and the stock market is supposed to be the dog. But, the tail can wag the dog. if an institution wants to pump up the indexes they can put in a $100 million buy order in for the s&p futures, cause a short squeeze, and its off to the races.

They do it frequently (how about those well-timed deadzone walkups when everybody else is out to have lunch, just happened today). Easiest money on Earth. And they call it "Fair and Orderly Markets". What a bs!:eek:

What's "fair and orderly" got to do with it? The only people I know of who are mandated to maintain fair and orderly markets are specialists. I'm not aware of any specialists initiating mass buy/sell programs.
