If you are running Vista, 1G is no where NEAR enough (IMHO) -- it is barely marginal for XP Pro. If XP Pro, the OS cannot utilize all 4 GB (addressing issues), if you have Vista, consider getting 8 G if you multi-task or run several charts at once.

Adding 4GB is overkill unless you are running Win XP Pro 64-bit or Vista 64 bit.
Running 1GB of Ram is way too little. XP alone needs 1GB to run efficiently.
Remember that the amount of data (# of days) in a chart will cause the ERG and Histogram to look differently because the start point is different.

Yes, this is an issue I have with the Zen-fire data feed because there is no continuous contract.

The longer term charts, I think, need a lot more days of data than I can get right now. The 2401 seems ok, but I have concerns about anything longer having sufficient bars.

The continuous contracts are a real savior.
 
Thanks for the comments, fellas. The OS is XP Pro, so hopefully increasing the memory will improve the machine's performance. I do realize adding 4 is more than needed, but the 2x2 kits are basically the same price as the 2x1, so figured too much is better than too little. And maybe a processor/XP 64-bit upgrade could be lurking in the future.

Like LT, I too am still trying to accumulate enough data to be sufficient for the larger fractals. However, the problems I experienced today sure seemed to indicate some type of data manipulation problem, as the indicator would correct itself with each reload, until once again 'falling behind'.

Prof, I'm not sure I've ever understood the idea of having enough data for the ergodic. Is not its lookback maximum period determined by the 147 parameter? I don't understand this idea of it utilizing data from the 'start point' of the database. Thanks ...

You can find Windows XP Pro 64 bit out there for about $US90 but you have to look. It is really worth it. The only problem with th now is that there isn't a trading platform made that runs on it. I have a separate computer running the 32 bit application to execute orders from.

I've been collecting data for years but use MultiCharts and eSignal. My database is approaching 3 GB with a 4 GB limit. Pretty soon I'm going to have to run two separate applications of MultiCharts to cover all of my markets unless MultiCharts creates a 64 bit application.

I learned a long time ago having a stable and robust application is essential. Most of the charting packages out there are toys and software companies refuse to accommodate the professional user.

The reason for the minimum amount of data (147 bars) is to give an accurate assessment of the price oscillations. It needs a minimum amount of bars in order to calculate the ERG to verify the oscillations. This is another reason why I love the Swing charts and another reason why I watch so many markets and individual chart months and increments.
 
These are the killer trades that will drain your account. I see this pattern on the 2401 a few times a week ... higher highs, higher lows. Similar price movement on way down and need for retracement signals caution.

It's a great practice chart but not a great trading chart in consolidation

One 3.5 point trade short from the 16807 starting about 9 minutes till 11 am EST this morning. Exited about 15 minutes ago.
Takes a lot of patience waiting for it and then sitting through it but it's well worth it.

You don't need a "home run" ever time you enter a trade, you simple need consistent profitability (get on base). If basebase players concentrated on just "getting on base" each time they got to the plate, those that succeeded would make the All Star game each year.
 
how about posting some results? Maybe even backtested figures. Better yet.How about collective 2? Otherwise. As this thread proves. Traders would be the dame or better off just guessing with tight risk control. This method is garbage like the woodie and other similar old man salesman types
