It is also notable that the Clean Air Act is one of the most life-saving pieces of legislation ever adopted by any country in history. Still, about 10,000 die from coal use in the U.S. each year, and another thousand from natural gas.

My theory, Maher despises religion. So much so that unlike other progressives who turn a blind eye toward Islam. Maher slams it more or less as much as Christianity.
No doubt Maher loathes organized religion, but at least he's consistent, unlike most leftists. The overwhelming majority of leftists don't have the integrity or the balls to call a spade a spade. Maher does, least on this issue, and frankly on a few other issues as well. For that I respect the man, as I do any man who is willing to speak his mind and then take the heat without apology. It is what it is, and Islam is an extremely violent and oppressive religion however it's interrupted.
