Problematic spikes

Hello, i'm new to futures (coming from forex) and i'm trying to find a good broker to trader Futures,commodities,energy and currencies (all i can analyze with mt4 ahah except equities).

I've heard good things about IBKR, but i'm really preoccupied by anormal spikes on some instruments like usdtry for example. Spikes that we don't find on any other broker, but IBKR boast about their huge liquidity, so i can't accept a" oh sorry just illiquid market".
This + margin problem i'm not really reassured anymore.

I can't risk my account at russian roulette every trade so hope you'll can enlighten me on the subject ( I've asked the question to their support without answers)

IB is a great broker for trading and access for world markets, their data and charting are very subpar, and it is ok. Just use a different data feed. One of the cheapest and best tools are NinjaTrader for charting and algo/Manual trading and Kinetick or IQfeed for rock solid and reliable data.

essentially data will come in from data provider connection and trades will be submitted via IB connection.

Yet, if it was a chart of a data vendor and not a broker...its just bad data. In contrast, I would be a little concern if the data from my broker has the same thing on the charts especially if it correlates to info in the Times & Sales.

Thus, if the Times & Sales is normal and its just the chart...a little less concern but it still needs to be alerted to the broker. Just as importantly, if such involved one of my trades...immediately make a screenshot of the chart, Times & Sales, Trade Fill window just in case. :D

If i see spikes like that, in the chart, i just don't touch the product. Sometimes my TOS demo would have those,
so i would - right mouse>delete/remove candle... :D

But those would be a paranormal activity candles, where the price would go from $40 to $700 000 or something.

Anyway, simple - avoid charts like that, since those are like people :
  • some are calm
  • some are active
  • some are crazy
You don't need the crazy ones in your life boat.

I ask you the questions to you all,

So, you're sure these spikes are just bugs of display or wrong historical datas ? Or they are real and things like that could hit my SL and blow my account if you add some slippages ?
Coming from forex and mt4 where brokers use plug in to chase SL,etc all the time, i've become really wary about things like that ^^

I know it can't happen on centralized market like futures, but for the forex section i don't know, i hope and guess such a big firm doesn't need to play these risky bucket shop games but i have to be sure to chose the good business partner ;)

ahah yeah that's what i'm doing, i stay away of IBKR for the moment but i really hope it's just a simple mistake

USDTRY is a great pair, look trade opportunity 1st april for example,etc. ;)
 
I started in forex a long long so know exactly what you talking about. No worries on futures
Market.

IB does not publish every tick. They aggregate and publish quotes every 250 milliseconds or so.
 
The spikes appear at other brokers - Oanda, Gain(Forex.com), & IG.
Oanda. Nothing abnormal about these spikes - this is Forex, as long as they go in the direction of the prevailing trend than it's nothing to worry about.
