Yeah, it's still not 100% clear after reading the second sentence you quoted, but the language in the first part of the capitalized sentence makes it sound like you are no longer considered a pro if you get a U-5. (I think so anyway)

Regardless, I think I have enough justification to claim I'm not a pro.

1. When you are terminated with a firm they are responsible for sending in a notice of termination to the SRO ( NASD ) The Form is a ( U-5 ). You should request a copy from the firm.

2. If you are not registered within 2 years with another firm you will need to re-take the series 7 and any other exam the position may require.

3. If you are not registered than you do not meet the definition of Professional and therefore your exchange fees are that of non-professional. If you obtain a copy of your U-5 and send it to the company providing the feed to you they may credit you back any charges. I suggest you contact the firm now and notify them of the change to non-professional.
