Private sector adds 42,000 jobs in July

Anything on the + side and the bulls will run the markets higher. Of course after losing tens of millions of jobs over the last 5 years that there will be an eventual pick up in job numbers no matter what the circumstances.

Just remember all the trillions spent to prop the economy up, there is no more true organic growth left in this economy, everything is coming from stimulus, its all artificial growth.

Any positive number is a good thing. Unfortunately it is quite low compared with the number lost over the past couple of years. Supports the theory that recovery will be a grind.

This is a good thing - we want a grind. It means that we'll stay higher for longer and not collapse like before.

Precisely... A grind is the most positive outcome the powers that be are hoping for.

tens of millions of jobs? Worlwide? Possibly. US? Not...

Those 42K jobs, what are the average salaries? Are they McJobs or 42K good paying middle class jobs.

leftover Census :D

Just remember that 200,000 students graduate college and join the workforce each month on average, for about 2.6 million per year in the US....

It takes that many hires to keep the employ rate even... we clearly are not there.

Yep, about 150,000-200,000 new people entering the workforce which means this economy has to create at least 250,000 jobs a month for many, many years to get the unemployment rate from 10 to 5%.

Think of the 15 million already out of work already.

Where is job creation going to come from?

And don't tell me from all the great stimulus money they are throwing around, that doesn't count.

BLUE SPRINGS – About 5,000 people have applied for salaried jobs at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi.

And that was for only 37 listed openings.

The positions, which were posted on toyota.com through Saturday, require a bachelor’s degree or “equivalent experience.”

“There were actually 53 jobs available,” said David Copenhaver, Toyota Mississippi’s vice president of administration. “For example, if there was a position for production group leader, we might have needed three of them.”

The salaried jobs were deemed “critical” and needed to be filled as quickly as possible, Copenhaver said.

How soon?

“Yesterday,” Copenhaver said with a laugh.

“But these are not all the salaried jobs we have, just the most critical,” he added. “In discussing what we needed, these are the ones that were determined needed to be filled first.”

The other salaried jobs will be posted in a few weeks, Copenhaver said.

Copenhaver said Toyota and state officials are still working on rolling out the application process for the hourly positions, most of which will be for production jobs.

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security will use the WIN Job Centers to handle the application process.

Copenhaver said an announcement with details on how people can apply for the hourly positions will be made “soon.”

Officials have said they expect more than 100,000 people to apply for the jobs at Toyota Mississippi, which is scheduled to open in fall 2011.

The Japanese automaker expects to have about 2,000 workers when the plant is in full operation by spring 2012.

Suppliers for the plant are expected to hire an additional 2,000 workers.

As for the 5,000 who applied for the salaried spots, Copenhaver said Toyota will handle the initial screening process.

A group within the human resources department will identify those applicants that meet the qualifications for the positions, then conduct phone interviews for further screening. From there, Toyota Mississippi officials will take over.

“We’ll do the interviewing and hiring locally,” Copenhaver said.

5000 applicants for 53 openings? 100,000 for 2000?

Is Toyota that incredible to work for? Or do those people just need jobs bad?
