rtharp, log out and then log back in. Your problem should be fixed now.

metooxx, your problem is normal. There can be a fifteen minute delay between what the homepage and the forums front page says in terms of your pm status. In other words, it's possible that your PM status on one of the two pages may be slightly behind on some occasions.
