PRIIPS KID on IB

It's very hard if not impossible to change to a US broker based in the US if you are not living in the US. I tried with multiple brokers. Ever since Sep 11 2001 they clamped down.

I feel lucky I can trade with IB (as Ameritrade, Schwab etc said no way if not American or living there). I just have to change from IB UK to IB US. Pain in the a** though and the European regulators are as dumb as.... Good on the UK for leaving.

Try Tastyworks and TradeStation. They offer international accounts for non-US traders.

UK won't leave the EU until at least 2021.

For long term investors like me, I found a loophole around this regulation. If you really have to own SPY, Buy deep ITM call option close to expiry and exercise it immediately. IB has no choice but to deliver the shares.

No it would not work this time as IB would automatically liquidate them as soon as it sees you owning the shares. There is already a poster on ET here that had all of the non-EU ETF's auto-liquidated by IB and he actually suffered losses as a result of that so don't do it. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/ib-again.322167/

I have no idea but if the principle is to "protect" EU customers, if somehow IBUK will not be obliged by these regulations, all IBUK EU customers would have to be transferred to something like IB Germany or alike.

Yes but all of the UK traders of IBUK would all be saved.

Don't know about Tastyworks. But Tradestation acts as an introducing broker to IB UK for international (including EU, obviously) clients. So we would be going in circle unfortunately.

Hi

I want to clarify something. Yes you can long Spy if it was assigned to you. IB doesn't liquidate if you have the margin to take it.
You can't open new positions in Spy. You can't close that Spy with combo orders, the only way is right click on the position and close.
I don't know what happen if you buy itm calls and try to exercise them.

But if someone wants to buy Spy, or any Etf, there is another way. Sell deep itm puts. The holder will early exercise them and you will be long Spy.
If you have the margin to take the Spy IB dosn't liquidate your position.

Thanks.

as Well as all the non european traders trading with IBUK who now get stuck with the same limitations a european traders

Really?!

So a resident of, say, Hong-Kong or Australia, trading with IB UK will be subject to the same regulation and banned from trading US ETFs just like an EU resident?
