There has been so much coverage of all the stupid things Trump said and did, that we have all had the opportunity to examine Trump in considerable detail. His own niece, a mental health professional who has been up close and personal with Trump, said he is mentally unstable. WTF is wrong with you?
No, they have not. Its only a rule of one medical body and it was made to protect the political lobbying influence of the body, not based on medical ethics which are very clear. When somebody is an obvious danger, there is a duty to inform the community. The law backs this position.
Virtually all politicians with megalomaniac narcissist and psychopathic traits have have libraries written about them by psychiatrists who never personally saw them.
John E. McConnin for example would have been judged a malignant narcissist by his writings but not any serious immediate risk to his family or community. No duty to inform. All a psychiatrist needs is sufficient samples of words and deeds to form a diagnosis. Goldwater was more private than Trump so it's fairly arguable they had insufficient information in these more private times, with Trump the opposite is true, swamped in his deeds and words.
Knowing however that this doctor has not personally seen the subject any adult knows to take this with grain of salt. If we believe people are competent to vote, this is the minimum we can expect from them.
Its NOT an ethical violation when it involves a public person. Also the medical association has no right to limit the first amendment. (small point).
I personally would have any candidate for president put through the ringer by shrinks, possibly randomly selected from abroad as Ronny Jackson proves there is no trust possible domestically. Possibly anonymous when examined. The dangers of megalomania/ narcissists and psychopathy is more than established.
That they don't even stand up to the scrutiny an airline pilot receives is beyond foolish. This includes Biden.

Not a violation of an organisations rules, a violation of medical ethics which would apply to all licenced practitioners. Real rules, not club rules. There are other orgs it's not a violation of.
Explain to us then why the American Psychiatric Association sent a warning letter to their members "re-affirming the Goldwater rule stating that mental health experts must not offer a professional diagnosis of any person they have not personally examined' after the "Duty to Warn" crowd put out their letter and website.

Most state licensing boards have accepted the APA/ACA as the ethical norm, and violation can lead to loss of license.
