President Obama blasted for golfing after tough speech on ISIS following James Foley killing

President Obama put his own spin on the oft-quoted advice of Teddy Roosevelt: Speak sharply and carry a big nine iron.

The vacationing commander-in-chief, after promising a relentless hunt for the terrorist butchers of a U.S. journalist, teed off on a Martha’s Vineyard golf course just a short time later.

“Obama is more dedicated to golfing than he is to defending the nation,” sniped Liz Cheney, daughter of the former GOP vice president, via Twitter.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius also took a swing at Obama.

“I know in Western countries, this is vacation period,” he said, according to The Wall Street Journal. “But when people are dying, you must return from vacation.”

Obama’s motorcade zipped quickly Wednesday from a local school to the first hole after his 12:45 p.m. media session on the murder of James Foley, 40.

Obama delivered a short statement and took no questions from the assembled media.

“The United States of America will continue to do what we must do to protect our people,” the President said. “We will be vigilant and we will be relentless . . . to see that justice is done.”

The President’s foursome on Martha’s Vineyard included ex-NBA star Alonzo Mourning, tech mogul Glenn Hutchins and longtime pal Cy Walker.

I think obama's odd obsession with golf needs deeper psychiatric analysis. Why would an african muslim community organizer left wing radical be so into a sport that defines wealth and privilege? I suppose it could have been worse. He could have taken up polo, but that would mean riding an actual horse, and that sort of thing is best left to Vlad Putin.

It's doubly ironic that the last two democrat presidents, loudmouthed defenders of the poor, have both been fanatical golfers. Unsurprisingly, both were terrible at the game as well.

It's been like this the entire Obama presidency. "WHY SHOULD OBAMA EVEN BE ALLOWED TO SLEEP??? THE WORLD IS ENDING WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!" Etc. All they're doing is projecting their own mortality salience.

No one is saying Obama can't go on vacation, but he sure does pick the worst times to do it. Additionally, if he wasn't perceived as such an absentee President, no one would really focus on all the golfing he does.

Anyway, you're right, Obama should schedule his breaks better. There have been so few crises in the world lately that it should be a cinch to take some time off (complete with meetings and statements!) between them.

They're probably hoping he'll work himself to death and that Biden will have a heart attack soon thereafter making Boehner president.
