hey,
price gouging,
vote gouging,
ballet stuffing,
what's the difference?

According to one of the early morning commentators on CNBC Tuesday Morning, May 2, 2006,
We as consumers should prepare for $5.50 gasoline and $.35 kwh electricity, just like the manufacturing sector has endured for the last few years.
On the local news, in one county, their police force is already $1,000,000 over their gasoline budget and committed their force to foot patrol instead of driving. This was commented on the regular news services.
Can you begin to see the collapse, and the resultant increases in dispropotionate wealth shifting?
No need to see it, its been here for the last five plus years....

you really should do some research before posting such garbage. The rest of the world doesn't "subsidize" us prices. The higher cost of fuel in europe is due to government policies. Most of the cost of fuel is due to taxes, with diesel getting much lighter taxes to encourage use. In fact, in some places in europe the base cost of gas is cheaper than the base cost of gas in the us, once you add the respective taxes the difference becomes obvious.
Quote from risktaker:
In some European countries the yearly tax on an SUV is *huge*.
Also, in some places the purchase tax on a vehicle is based on the size of the engine. So in some cases a 5 or 6 liter engine will be a 30-40% tax on the purchase price. No kidding!
They have all kinds of "penalties" to keep people away from vehicles with big engines.

And so it should be. There is no need to waste precious resources and pollute the planet just to show off "mine is bigger than yours".
