Well those exercises are planned and conducted yearly. We could not have cancelled them with a complete and true cessation of hostilities, including a disarmament at the border.

I’m neither calling it strategic or stupid, it’s more like an unavoidable factor. Besides, the North Koreans are more pissed with John Bolton’s rhetoric than anything.

If I were Trump, I would reschedule the meeting out to September, if the North Koreans are indicating they need more time to think about it.

We will see what "boxed in" looks like after another three months of sanctions.

NK is pissed that the exercises went ahead and they made it crystal clear, verbally and in writing. How would Russia act if right before very important meetings with Nato representatives suddenly Nato runs some major anti Russia drills in the Baltic region like Finland or Lithuania?

Sorry, buddy, but no, cancelling the defense exercises cannot be on the table, not even for Trump. This is much too much serious business for some superficial thinking like just cancel an incredibly important defensive exercise. The North Koreans are not to be trusted and those exercises cannot be cancelled until that border is demilitarized. Too much at stake.

Sure, but you see Trump getting squeezed by the Chinese. Lots more of that to come and all they are dangling is the chance of a meeting with Un. Trump is getting squeezed right now.

Delaying the meet may be a good option and it may not be. It depends on what you want. If Trump actually wants to see what is what, then it doesn’t make sense to delay. He could just as easily say now or never and switch back into a military posture. Delay will lead to more concessions more than likely without a different outcome.

Don’t underestimate the Chinese in this. Trump set the table and put the trade deficit on the menu, now the Chinese are laser focused on eating his lunch.
