Praying on the streets of Paris outlawed

I don't see how praying in the street is any more a protected "right" than doing maintenance on your car, setting up a tent to live in or playing a basketball game in the street. It's an impediment to traffic, no one has the right to that.

What? Are you saying I can't go out and work on my car in the street? :D

Quote from pspr:

So, it's the Muslims who are causing the problem by praying on the street. I don't think that making this law is the right thing to do but I don't know much about the French Constitution.

It's surprisingly similar to the American constitution.

However, traditionally in muslim societies, a given street/place would be designated for prayers, (men only of course) where there is no nearby mosque, or if said nearby mosque is too damn full most of the time.

Cars were not such an issue when this tradition started.

Quote from peilthetraveler:

Why dont they just make it illegal to be a muslim. I mean...they are already have one foot over the line, might as well just step the other foot over now.

It's not just about that, France is a strongly secular nation. displays of religious symbols of any persuasion in public institutions are not accepted. Ask an average frenchmen if he goes to church on sundays, and he gives you either a look of disgust or laughs at you.

Quote from flowingfunds:

Lol we're seeing the clash of ancient religion and modern technology.

To an extent, yes.
It's just that "car bombs" took over from a vacuum, where "donkey bombs" never existed.

However, "street prayer" in designated areas is part and parcel of islam.

And has no place in modern society.

Quote from Free Thinker:

Matthew 6
6“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2“So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
5“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 6But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
