I think the chart is awful because the x axis is truncated.

Yeah you were correct seems like may test for a while at 1.117 level.
ok. it doesn't look awful this time.
for a downtrend, I'd draw a descending trend line touching the highs (not touching the lows).
Of course, for this case, the highs are all over the place and hence we can't draw the line touching the highs.
