If they had $500.00 withheld from their paychecks, not only will they get that $500.00 back but, maybe, $3,000.00 or more in the form of a tax refund? Indirect robbery of sorts from US citizens working hard to provide for their own families. All of us with jobs end up paying for all to this, not counting cash and food from welfare, section 8 housing subsidies, etc.

I have never seen an audit to verify dependents
no, an ITIN doesn't require an undocumented to "report himself to officials". ITIN are issued to foreign nationals w/money making interests in the US. The problem is that it requires the undocumented to set up a sole proprietorship biz entity and list themselves as an employee of said entity under employ by (pick your boss)......a stretch for most people arriving barely knowing any english.

I don't either. When they gave the stimulus, those with Earned Income Credit got a boost to what they were receiving then, it was extended for 1 whole year resulting in them receiving tens of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of most taxpayers. Now, it is back to what it was before but, still those with Earned Income Credit are making out like bandits.
