Midterm successes are not based upon the total popular vote but rather the seats that changed hands in both The House and The Senate. ---The 2018 midterms were the 5th best in US History for the party in power in The White House.

If it wasn't for the anti democratic gerrymandering,electoral college and Senate that allows republicans to win or be even while representing 20 million less people Republicans would rarely ever win.

Actually, they don't. The beauty of the Senate is that Senators represent states.---The House represents the people.
As the top political analyst on the board, I say that it would be best for The Senate to go back to where each state legislature picked them rather than the way it is now with them being elected. In this way, the state legislatures would be able to be represented in Washington the way The Founders intended them to be.
