Portugal has one of the highest emigration numbers (fourth highest) in Europe. Almost 15% in 2017 left the country and numbers go still up. People leave the country to get a better live elsewhere.

It really is bad, believe me.

I had that wish of moving abroad a few years ago and escape from here, but my wife didn't like the idea of leaving her family behind. Later she regreted her decision but then it became too difficult to move to another country because we both suffer from several severe chronical diseases that makes it impossible...

Had a wonderful long weekend in Oporto a couple pf years back - fabulous. And all the Portuguese people we met there were so friendly and relaxed. But I wish it wasn't in Portugal.

I'm glad you liked your time in Oporto. There are many other places you would enjoy too. Portugal is undoubtedly a good country to come on holydays.

But unfortunately with the excessive increase of tourism since 2015 it is not as good as it used to be. This is happening in many other countries as well.

That's the price of progress...

I was describing what Portugal really is for people seeking a country to work, with fiscal advantages and a good living, not just my experience in Portugal.

People must see beyond the shameless marketing and propaganda that the politicians are making to lure those people.

I can tell you two things though:

I have worked very hard while I was healthy enough to do it and although I am not nearly rich I am "relatively" comfortable about money to have a good life. However, currently my health does not allow me that.

So, believe me when I say this: there is never enough money that can compensate the lack of health. I agree that rich people can have access to better care and luxury and it would help them to carry on. But "carrying on" is never the same of enjoying life...

Portuguese rich people living in Portugal very often need to go abroad when they need good health care. I also know several foreigner people living in Portugal and when they get sick with some more complicated deceases they have to go back to their countries to be decently treated (UK, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia, etc.).

This is what Portugal really is nowadays - a beautiful country with a decadent indebted society hidden behind a propaganda wall...
