Making arguments on the absolute level of the guys pay in NYC is not really fair. Everything costs more there, including public employees.
What they should fix is whatever scenario that caused them to allow this guy massive overtime rather than hiring another employee at a lower rate. And of course the fact that if he's close to retirement that he can game his pension by working overtime.

I can not believe the distortion that come from leftists. Govt... Profit? Do you understand where the gov't revenue comes from. The port exploits the bridges and charges tolls and fees for things related to the port (that is just a guess, but it is a pretty good one.)
If the port authority is making more than it spends for the people of the NY or NJ... by charging taxes, tolls and fees great... and this is the important point.... wait........ wait..... wait....

Its tax and toll revenue.
It should not be spent willy nilly. Its the people's money.
They are generating revenue on behalf of the people. That is not a profit. I am sure the NY budget is way out of balance.
That money should be keeping other taxes down. It should not be wasted.
