Going to church, hearing 3 readings from the bible and going to communion is the reason there is a church. The reason there is a Mass is communion.
An incidental question to attending Mass is whether to donate.
If a paraishoner donates - how much of that goes to help people and now how much of that might still be used to hurt people.

They don't rationalize it. They just assert, assert, assert. They are the faithful, and their fairy tale beliefs are based on received knowledge. Rational thought doesn't come into it.
It is incomprehensible that these scandals continue to get exposed. What is it about Catholicism that produces these homosexual pedophiles? You would think that the suppression of sexual expression, unnatural as it is, would cause these priests to go after young girls, not young boys.
But wait a minute... God is omniscient and therefore free will does not exist. The actions of these priests are god-like in the sense that they are 'created' by God. The actions are a part of the life of a man who was created by God, and God knew before he was 'born' that he would ruin the lives of these children. That's the meaning of 'omniscient'. The rationalization? The ones who commit suicide as adults go to be with God in heaven quicker than the rest of us, and that's their reward.
