We should be grateful for the Catholic Church.

Without it we'd all be wearing turbans, worshipping Allah.

Without it capitalism and free markets would not exist as we know them. Capitalism flourished in Catholic cities like Venice.

Without it we would not have modern science. Many of the men who laid the foundations of modern science and technology were nurtured in and by the Church.

Without it we wouldn't have the "freedom of the individual" or "the dignity of man" The Catholic Church preserved the best of Greek and Roman philosophy in exalting the importance of the individual...not to mention the whole God becoming man thing.

Without it we wouldn't have Western Civilization. Period. The world would be now either Moslem or Mongol and perhaps not far progressed from the 13th century.

Think the world is bad now? What a dark world it would be without the church.

You got it all wrong and the Pope is right on. This Pope is the voice of the truth in this world of lies. I am a Christian who doesn't believe in God but this guy unlike his predecessor I respect what he says. Anyway what the Pope says always has to be put into context.

Freedom of Religion includes freedom to not choose a religion - to that I completely agree and would defend any ones right not be pick a religion.

As far as suppression goes - there is a fine line between the will of the majority and the cry of suppression of a right by a minority. That is what the constitution and supreme court is all about.

That shalt not murder - should you be free from the 10 commandments? Thats and obvious one - what about assisted suicide - what about pulling the plug on pre mature babies or protecting doctors who choose to prolong the life of pre mature babies in what some observers would call baby torture or experiments.

Do you think that your rights to abortion are being suppressed by religion. Well others think it is a question of human rights. The rights of the baby.
